The 2010 WSC was held at Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club, Corona del Mar, CA. We hope you joined
the more than 200 women who attended the convention this year.
The convention is held the first Saturday of February. For information on the next WSC contact Gail
Hine or download a PDF application from http://wsscya.scyaweb.org
WORSA is very
proud to support SCYA's
Women's Sailing
Convention. The quality of the convention is unmatched! The
organization, planning and production of this event has gained national
recognition. This is a top-notch educational opportunity for women to
enhance
their sailing skills on the water as well as in the classroom. The
convention
was started in 1990 by Gail Hine, who continues to chair the event.
Thanks to
the support of co-chair Kathie Ohmer and many others, the event just
gets
better every year.
The
convention packs a lot
into a 12-hour day: up to 4 workshops (2 AM sessions and 2 PM sessions)
from
over 30 workshop/seminar offerings, breakfast, lunch and dinner, a
first-rate
speaker and, of course, the ever-popular raffle with dozens of prizes.
Workshops
vary by year,
with a large selection for the novice to advanced sailor and topics of
interest
to day sailors, cruisers, and racers. A sample of past workshops
includes:
Weather Wise, Sail Trim, Intro to Racing, Medical Tips, Offshore
Cruising,
Spinnaker Trim, Knot Know-how, Diesel for Dummies, Galley Glory,
Suddenly
Single Handed, Basic Navigation and many others.
All coaches
are women and
may come from as far away as Australia and Virginia, but many are our
own local WORSA
members. A significant number of the
coaches are licensed Captains, and we are fortunate to have a US
Sailing Judge
(also a WORSA member)
teach our Racing Rules
workshops.
The effort
to put on an event of this magnitude requires months of pre-planning,
promotion and coordination of hundreds of details. It's "IN THE
DETAILS" that make this event one of the highest quality learning and
mentoring experiences for women in the country! Planning
meetings start in September, and enthusiastic volunteers are always
welcome.
